Augenstein-in-Progress

Published by Brillig at 5:01 pm under Blogginess

So, right now, Mara is in a big fat mess.  A passionate and profoundly talented violinist, she’s had to go into hiding, giving up music for good.  Though she’s only 17, her new birth certificate with someone else’s name on it indicates that she’s 20 years old.  She’s lost three years of her youth, and is suddenly forced to figure out what she wants to do with the rest of her life–without music.  While recklessly snooping, she uncovers a huge secret:  an original Augenstein violin, confiscated from Nathan Augenstein during WWII by Nazis, worth millions of dollars, is sitting right there in her apartment complex.  She asks too many questions, thus putting herself in danger of being found by those who are hunting her down.

Oh, and she’s kissing the wrong guy.

And I couldn’t be more thrilled.

I’m currently at about 28,000 words.  Before I go to bed tonight, I hope to be closer to 31,000.  While the minimum goal for most NaNoWriMo-ers is 1600/day, I’ve upped mine to 3000/day since I don’t write on Sunday and also because I want to finish 50,000 before I head to Utah for Thanksgiving.  These goals, for the record, seem completely impossible.  But that ain’t gonna stop me from tryin’, no-sirree.

I just wanted to let you all know that I miss you.  A lot.  I find that I’m concocting blog posts in my head all day.  Soon I’ll be back to reading your posts and writing my own.  For now, thanks for your kind thoughts and your immense patience.  I can’t believe what an amazing support system you’ve all been for me as I try my hand at something I’ve always wanted to do, but that is so far outside my comfort zone!

You get it, girl! It sounds like a fascinating premise for a plot. I only write a thousand words a day but that’s because I’m not doing the novel in a month thing and I’ve already had my little project percolating for a while. You’re ambitious to take on so many words a day, but if you love the story, it will feel like the most fun you ever had working, I bet.

    Wow, I’m impressed.
I’m not sure if I’m going to make it all the way through NaBloPoMo and you’re writing a novel??

    You win.

    (way to go!!)

Well, if anyone has enough fodder for, like, FIVE novels off the top of her head, it should be you! I hope you will post it somewhere when you’re done so we can read it. Hang in there, and I hope the writing is cathartic for you in your stress.

    Go Brill Go!
Sigh…now I wish I had a viola (violins always make me think viola immediately since it was my instrument) so I could take up playing again. Maybe I will find one buried in my garage or something.

Wish I could say the same about my plot…last night I turned my reluctant hero into a cafeteria worker at a junior high (he’s going semi-undercover to keep an eye on his client’s daughter). Not sure where this one is going but it sure seemed like a good idea shortly after midnight. :)

    Radical!

I hope the uber-violin is also a sweet sub-machine gun, with which she can then kill the Nazis that come after her (because, what else are you supposed to do with Nazis in stories?). I’m trying to think, of a good violiny bad-A thing she could say before she opened up on them, but it’s not coming to me (”how’d you like this little ditty?” isn’t doing it for me). I’m sure you can think of something.

That would be cool. I would read that.

I did leave you something on my blog last Sunday, though.

All the brilliant writers in blogland all seem to be MIA because of NaNoWriMo, so there’s this big hole right now that stalkers like me have to deal with :-) But that’s a selfish sentiment isn’t it? :-)
Seriously what you’re doing sounds fantastic! Good luck!

Doing something out of your comfort zone is really wonderful. You make me feel like a slob, staying all comfortable, I don’t even try to blog halfway decently, let alone write a story. BUT, I remind myself that that is no place to go when I can’t even figure out which way is up or what time it is. Oh, plus, I’m going through the very beginning of one of those phases where I question my very existence and try to really focus on what I’m supposed to be changing now…
Oh, and by the way, the plot sounds really fun, and I love bloggy friends who write occasionally instead of every day. It’s so much easier to keep up!
