Eight

Published by Brillig at 10:37 pm under Blogginess

“TODAY!”  I thought.  “Today I have some extra time and I’m going to catch up on all the blogs I’ve missed lately!”

Yeah.  I tried.  I really did.  But here’s the problem:

See, I have my blog lists arranged by days of the week.  They are in “bookmark categories”, ordered as Monday, Tuesday, etc.  Crap, I have no idea if I’m making any sense as I try to explain this.  Hmmmm.  Anyway, a dear friend gave me the idea when she realized that I was always complaining about being behind on my Google Reader.  She explained that this way I can arrange to read some blogs every day, and some I just read twice a week or whatever.  It’s an excellent system and I’d love to give her full credit for the idea, but I’m not sure if she wants the whole world to know that that’s what she does, so I’ll wait for her to reveal herself, rather than me being the one to “out” her.

ANYWAY, since today is Tuesday, I opened my Tuesday link list into tabs.  26 blogs in all are assigned to Tuesday (though some of those 26, as I tried to explain, are also assigned to other days of the week too).  Now, again, please understand that I haven’t done ANY blog-reading in weeks, let alone have I read all 26 or whatever assigned to every day.  Some people on my lists haven’t seen me around in MONTHS.

So, I opened up the Tuesday list.  By the way, I have these listed completely randomly—not in order of favorite or ugliest or goofiest or whatever.  Just how they ended up in my bookmarks.  And, wanna know why I didn’t get very far?  Because the first eight blogs on the list that opened up are:

Novembrance

Something to Say: About Life in The Netherlands

Walking Kateastrophe

Blonde Canary

Lawyer Mama

Soccer Mom in Denial

Temporary? Insanity

The Butrfly Garden

Do you have any idea how excellent these 8 blogs are?  They are certainly NOT the only excellent blogs I read (and miss desperately!).  But still, what an amazing 8!!  You have to understand that I adore these women.  Every single one of them.  I am enriched by them, I am enlightened by them, I am educated by them, and I am entertained by them.   I am in awe of these women that I am so blessed to “associate” with.  And, so, I ended up spending seriously like half an hour at each of those eight blogs.  I started with the most recent post, and then couldn’t keep myself from going back farther and farther and reading most or all of the posts that I’d missed.  How I bask in their words!!!

But!  It also means that I missed 19 of “Tuesdays” blogs, not to mention all of my Monday blogs, Sunday blogs, Saturday blogs…

I have no idea how I’m going to catch up.  I can’t spend half an hour at every blog.  But I can’t help it!  Your blogs are so amazing!  Which means, of course, that tomorrow I will probably only make it to eight or so blogs too.  Sigh.  Anyway, I’m working on it!

And if, by chance, you have nothing else to do (cuz I know that everyone but me is just sitting around doing nothing…) I strongly suggest that you check those 8 blogs out.  8 beautiful women, 8 awesome blogs, 8 true friends.

StumbleUpon It!

Brillig, I’m freakin’ crying over here! Seriously, my started out fabulous, descended into the depths of crumminess, and now it’s fabulous again. I want to tell you to zero everything out and start from scratch with no guilt because we all love you and understand it’s been rough for you lately. But you’re such a loving, giving person…I can’t imagine you doing it. I wish I were a hacker so I could sneak in and do it for you, but then, you might get mad and replace me and I’d be desolate then and…umm…right. Babbling now. I’m going to bed. I love you my sweet Brilly-Brill!

The good news is that I am sure some of those 8 are on the list on other days, so you will slowly catch up. Problem is, just like credit card debt, they will keep on accumulating if you don’t pay down more than the minimum. From what yous said, your goal should be at least 25 blogs (not posts!) a day and if wou really want to work it down, you should try to read 30!!

  3. Fourier.Analyston 28 Nov 2007 at 8:27 am

BTw, welcome back!! I was beginning to think it was just me you didn’t love anymore!!

  4. Alekxon 28 Nov 2007 at 8:28 am

I can barely keep up with my own much less everyone elses. So I just hit them when I can.
It’s that whole protect and serve thing. The public insists that I be alive and alert for them.
The hubby also likes his 5 or 10 minutes a day.
Ah such is the life of a superstar. (you belived that right????)

Excellent blogs, indeed, Brill. I’m with K–don’t beat yourself up over not wearing gold bracelets and flying an invisible jet.

  6. christinaon 28 Nov 2007 at 8:48 am

add me to… Thursday lol, that way I wont have to be up to par with those lovely ladies!

  7. Luisaon 28 Nov 2007 at 9:00 am

Aww, thanks for the kind words and linkage. Remember what Dorie says: “Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming….”

I don’t think any of your fans would be sad if you just read the most recent thing. They’d all just be delighted to hear from you again.

Do what you can (and do what you want, not what you feel you should).

  8. VirtualSpriteon 28 Nov 2007 at 9:03 am

Definitely eight of my favorite blogs, too. And I know what you mean… I try and I try to keep up and, well, it just ain’t happening. We’re all with you, sister. Just do the best you can.

  9. Kellyologyon 28 Nov 2007 at 9:45 am

I think we have the same reader…and I am oh so behind as well. I think we’re going to have start for December DeBloReadMo so that I can catch up!lol

  10. Soccer Mom in Denialon 28 Nov 2007 at 9:55 am

I am floored. Just floored that you wrote this. You are under no, I repeat NO, obligation to read blogs. You are obligated to care for your kids, pay some attention to that hubby and sleep (remember to sleep!).

But then, you turn around and write something nice about me and my blog. You are really too kind. And to group me with those folks. Sheesh. I’m so glad to be on such a list.

I hearby give you permission to not read my blog. Come when you can. You are always welcomed.

    Hug.

I tried a ‘reader’ but I just got buried. Now they’re all in my side bar but some people don’t blog every day so I like the idea of sub categorizing them as you have done but that would take such a long time!
    Cheers

  12. Whiskeymarieon 28 Nov 2007 at 11:51 am

I think a reader would just make me feel guilty.
With Nablopomo I swear that I have NO TIME to read/comment on other people’s blogs.
Two days left, two days left…

Just take it easy and get to what you can. And don’t try to “catch up” - just go forward. I think everyone would like a healthy, less stressed Brillig. That’s the important thing. ;-)

  14. Jewelson 28 Nov 2007 at 1:01 pm

Oh my gosh - THANK YOU!! I love that you love my blog. Do you love that I love that you love…wait, no. Oh, how I love and adore you. We really must get together soon. I too love reading your blog, you are simply amazing. I mean, why else do you think I’m friends with you? Duh, rad Brillig.

  15. Worker Mommyon 28 Nov 2007 at 1:05 pm

I’m still old school in that I haven’t set up my Google reader even though I know I will soon be forced to when they start monitoring our computer usage more at work.
In any event, I think the reader would just be too intimidating.
I have my blog roll and then a whole host of others saved to my Favorites in my browser - that I can’t get to on a regular basis. Ay yi yi.
I just wish there weren’t so many entertaining blogs out there…*sigh*

  16. Queenieon 28 Nov 2007 at 2:19 pm

OMG. What a fab idea. I have the same issue with all the blogs that I read. I need to split them up into days and then not worry that I am forgetting anyone.
Whomever your friend is…she needs to share more tips. Be sure to share a link if she is going to do that. Brill…no worries. We are all busy as heck. I am sure that every one of your readers will understand.

  17. Kateastropheon 28 Nov 2007 at 4:57 pm

I heart you forever. And I don’t care if you read or not. I have your phone number. Bru hahahahahaa

  18. Aliceon 28 Nov 2007 at 9:20 pm

I couldn’t agree with you more! Those are an awesome top 8, and I think my 8 would be those same.

  19. Gunfighteron 28 Nov 2007 at 10:20 pm

I certainly give you permission to skp mine… I generally don’t post anything that means much of anything, so skip it for a while if you need to.

  20. Goofballon 29 Nov 2007 at 4:43 am

oh you shouldn’t feel obliged to read them all…why don’t you clear your RSS reader and start fresh? I know you love some of these blogs, but there’s no fun in a rat race trying to catch up no? Blogging should be fun.

BTW, I think everybody is struggling right now…this NaBloPoMo is even killing the people who are not participating!

  21. Julie Wrighton 29 Nov 2007 at 9:09 am

those are some of my favorites too, and you are absolutely not allowed to feel guilty over no blog reading. Everyone needs breaks.

  22. Mommasworldon 29 Nov 2007 at 10:14 am

You are not alone in being behind. I haven’t had enough time to visit everyone I usually visit with either. My reason is nothing like your’s though.( too tired from shopping and family visits). I hope the children are well very soon!

  23. jenn in hollandon 29 Nov 2007 at 4:01 pm

Garsh, Brilly. You sho said a lodda nice things up there. It was shure nice of you to talk me up like that. I rully hart ewe.

  24. Butrfly Gardenon 29 Nov 2007 at 8:42 pm

    I. Love. You.

    Seriously.

    :D

Aren’t you glad I quit posting??? Sheesh! (I don’t feel as guilty this way.)

    I love Kelly(ology)’s idea. hahaha.

I try to get caught up on one person’s blog at a time. (Like you don’t know that…getting like five comments in one day.)

Yours are actually the hardest for me to get to only because I want to be able to FOCUS on them … Like the two SOS’s that will have to wait for tomorrow night. (Video Game Night for TM, Internet Night for me. Oh, sweet Friday!)

Miss you, hon! Thanks for the nod (and the back up from all mah peeps!). :D I’m all cheesily happy now.

  25. Suburban Oblivionon 30 Nov 2007 at 5:02 pm

I posted about it awhile back, but it could have been someone between us who told you :) It’s the only way to get through so many fantastic blogs out there! :D

  26. patoison 30 Nov 2007 at 10:23 pm

You’ve got some great taste there, lady.

  27. canadianflakeon 01 Dec 2007 at 9:30 am

I completely agree with your list. A lot of those 8 blogs are already ones I read daily. I know that you haven’t been reading mine anymore but no worries….I come here because I think you rock and I love the stories you share …you have had me hooked as a reader since the days of “chad” in SOS…lol.

  28. Wholly Burbleon 04 Dec 2007 at 10:04 pm

I agree, hard to give up reading everyone’s entries–so many good ones, so little time LOL. Great list you’ve chosen in those top eight, as well.

OK, I think I’m not saying anything original here, but merely adding my “amen” to everyone else, saying no need to try and read “all”, just do some, and enjoy. Let the guilt trip go–no future in it, really.
