desperately!!!

And I mean desperately.

A lovely invitation arrived in the mail for my father today. Since I’m in charge of sorting his mail while he and my mom are in Spain for the next 18 months, I opened it:

It’s an invitation to a fancy schmancy Democratic Fundraiser/Party/Fiesta thing…

See, it’s very possible that my Dad and I are two of maybe, oh, FIVE registered Democrats in all of Utah County.

Seriously, people. This place is the Republican Blind Sheep capitol of the world.  Everywhere I go, people still have “Bush in ‘04″ bumper stickers all over their cars–like they’re so proud to have voted for him, rather than hiding their heads in shame as they ought to. 

This is the place that invited Dick Cheney to speak at commencement for the only major University in the area this last April. I KNOW!!!! The entire nation (world!) hates this administration, not one person can think of a single positive contribution that Cheney has made to society (though we can all think of the severely negative impact he’s had…) but we in Utah County invite him to speak at the biggest event of the year. (I suspect it wasn’t all that hard to book him…)

In high school I was the Vice President of the Young Democrats for my school–because there were THREE of us. Yeah. Kinda pathetic that I didn’t make President when you look at it in those terms.

Anyway, in a place so full of red blood, the contributions to the Democratic party are… um… probably quite meager. But this! Oh, this is alarming. Read the first two sentences of the invitation. Go on. I’ll wait.

Chaing? Goap?

I think these are secret code words for “send us enough money to install spell check on our computers before we send out all of our invitations, humiliating ourselves to extinction and wasting the very few pennies we actually receive from fundraisers.”

So, so embarrassing.
