Taking the Show on the Road
Remember how I told you a few weeks back that there was some big Soap Opera Sunday news? And then remember how life got crazy and stuff, and I never told you what I meant? Well, listen closely, dearies. Here comes some big news.
We are making Soap Opera Sunday GLOBAL!!! And, of course, what I mean is that my partner in crime, the lovely and delightful Kate of Walking Kateastrophe, and I are taking Soap Opera Sunday to the next level.
Almost every time I post a Soap Opera Sunday, someone comments or emails me to say that my story reminds them of something that happened to them, etc. Several have even said, “do you mind if I steal your idea?” Well, ladies and gentlemen, no stealing necessary! I’m OFFERING it to you! AND! Everyone who participates will get extra linky love and, if this thing goes well, lots of extra traffic too.
Okay. So. Just what do we mean by “Soap Opera”? Well, we’re looking for personal, true stories (though you won’t hear us complaining about exaggerations…) filled with drama, heartbreak, scandal, romance, etc. What we AREN’T looking for is stuff that’s too hot and heavy–please keep it rated PG. Basically, if “throbbing member” is a phrase that I’m likely to find in your story, then Soap Opera Sunday isn’t for you… So, think MELODRAMATIC as opposed to TRASHY. Otherwise, the sky and your past, present, and future are the limit!
So, here’s how it’s gonna work. If you want to participate (and it’s open to everyone!) you will post your own Soap Opera Sunday on your site using our spiffy button (which Kate is having designed as we speak) and then link back to mine and Kate’s sites so that anyone who reads your soap opera and wants to read more can readily see who else is playing. Then, in return, after your post is up, you send us your link (via email or a comment), which we will add to our own Soap Opera Sunday posts for the week as we receive them. See? You get two free links! Just for playing along!
We’ll do this every week! If you only participate once a month, that’s fine. If you wanna play every single week, that’s great! Your level of involvement is entirely up to you. But every time you post, you get a new link from both of us.
(Putting your post up on Sat. afternoon or evening and letting us know right away is probably your best bet for fast linky-love. Posting on Sunday morning is okay too, but I might be slower about getting your link added…)
This is just the beginning, Gentle Readers. Soon, we’ll implement a blogrolling widget and “Who’s the Soapiest?” award!
And YES, this starts THIS WEEK! So start thinking now about what you want to write! (Also, you can, of course, repost something you wrote in the past–we’ve read an awful lot of Soap Operas on your blogs in the past, just without that particular label! It just needs to be reposted and, again, linked to us to be considered.)

Also, You and Kate tend to use humor in your stories even when they’re kind of sad or whatever. Is that the *feel* of the game is humor…like, would it upset the balance if it were not funny? Dude…maybe I’ll just email you.

I have so many answers. No, I don’t think you cross the line. We just don’t want outright sexual descriptions of escapades. It’s a hard line to define. Basically, erotica is out, okay?
Serious is fine, if you want to go that route. It’s completely up to you.
I’ve looked into Mr. Linky, and I may go that route. It’s just that… well… I’d have to pay for it. And I’m kind of a cheapwad, doncha know. But eventually I may decide that it’s worth it.
AAAHHHHHH! I love this. Why? Mostly because a lot of my lovely soap operas involve people you know! Oooooh, I have so many. I’ll definitely be posting one this Sunday, I can’t wait! I just have to pick one super great story to start out with. Hmm, so many to choose from…

This is a Wonderful assignment! (thinking of school) This would allow flow of creativity to any blogger no matter what their venue. It would help those who want to create fiction and those who want to remember the past for autobiographies. At any rate I think this will not only benefit Soap Opera Sundays but all the bloggers who come through your blog. It will create a stir within each blogger. How very like you to encourage people to go on to the best they can be!!

I am TOTALLY on board and can’t wait. I know I have told you before I LOVEEEEEE soap opera sundays and I have even mentioned them on my blog thinking I would share the love. It might take me a week or 2 to get in because I don’t know how to add links in a post.. I have to figure that out. Then I will be playing as often as I can think of something to write about…my life is pretty boring though….roflmao.
Can’t wait. I keep thinking, “I wonder if Brillig would mind me using her S.O.S. idea.”

Too fun! I’d love to play, but I have to be very careful, since I don’t exactly post anonymously and so many people from my past read my blog–that could be scary.
But oh boy, there was plenty of soap drama among a certain group of friends–forget triangle. At times it was more like a hexagon. We’ll see if I get brave enough to spill some of the beans.
Good times. I have plenty of Soap Opera’s to share…but I don’t blog on the weekends.
