Animated Admissions

Published by Brillig at 10:58 pm under Blogginess

I just bought the movie Barbie in the 12 Dancing Princesses for my Fluffy, and fortunately her brothers don’t yet know that it’s not cool for them to like Barbie movies, so they’re all happily watching it. We’ve all probably seen it about 57 times now.

And I have the most random thing to admit.

I think “Prince” Derek is HOT.

I would have included a picture with that last statement, but I couldn’t find any, even through lengthy google image searches–which leads me to believe that I’m the only “grown up” who thinks that Derek is hot. Or, perhaps, that any animated character is hot.

Alas, it’s not the first time. I always kinda had a thing for Eric from The Little Mermaid and Prince Philip from Sleeping Beauty.

And really, I can’t believe I’m writing any of this.

Still, I know I’m not entirely alone. I specifically remember a moment in college when I was hanging out with some guy friends who had just seen Disney’s “Hercules” (it had just come out) and they were talking about how Meg was by far the hottest Disney character ever! When I saw the movie myself, I thought that she was definitely the skankiest of all of Disney’s princesses (which is, of course, what these guys found so appealing). Still, the fact that ALL of them were saying this about an animated character makes me think that perhaps this is not totally unheard of.

So, fess up. Did you ever have a thing for an animated character?

(And is anyone gonna agree with me about Derek? Come on…)

StumbleUpon It!

I WISH I could say, “Oh yeah. Totally. Me too.”
    But I can’t. I KNOW. I shouldn’t even be commenting.
But I had to. Just cuz I know I’m going to be the only one that has never had an animated crusher.
    By the by…
You MUST find this picture of hot Derek. I need to see just how crazy you are.

  2. Nello againon 30 May 2007 at 12:19 am

    Is this your man?

  3. Brilligon 30 May 2007 at 12:27 am

    Nello,
HAHAHA. I’m sorry you’ve never had the great fortune of being ga-ga for a cartoon. And yes, that is indeed “my man”–I found plenty of pics of the toy of him, but it doesn’t do the actual character justice. HAHAHAHA. What you REALLY ought to do is go rent the movie–Helene would love it! And then you can see for yourself, and give me your report. (I’ll even email you a free redbox rental code, so you don’t have to pay for it! Aren’t I cool?)

  4. Burficaon 30 May 2007 at 12:42 am

haven’t seen Derek, but I totally crushed on Beast from beauty and the beast.

And I like the guy from Ferngully, can’t remember his name.

  5. Jenn in Hollandon 30 May 2007 at 1:04 am

don’t know Derek as we are slightly past the barbie movie stage and have moved onto “13 going on 30″ mode here.
But I can tell you that while watching “Aladdin” for the four-zillionth time one day, the thought “Wow, she’s a great actress” actually formed in my head. About Jasmine. Who is drawn.
    Now, that’s emabarrassing!

  6. Nanetteon 30 May 2007 at 2:33 am

No animated fantasies here. But, you are totally cute for your admission! :)

  7. jenniferon 30 May 2007 at 3:50 am

I loved that big hunky guy from Mulan- oh, what’s his name?

  8. Luisa Perkinson 30 May 2007 at 4:24 am

The Mulan hunk would be Captain Li Shang, who won my heart by having the singing voice of Donny Osmond. Love it.

Prince Philip was my first love…

  9. Leneon 30 May 2007 at 4:24 am

I’ve only seen a tidbit of the movie, so I am unsure what Derek looks like. But I have heard a lot of moms discuss how good looking children’s programming characters are. For example: Sportakus (sp?) - he isn’t ugly…so I can’t kind of see that one but I also heard someone say that the old guy from Blue’s Clues was hot. HOT? NOT!

I find it very depressing that I know who all of these characters are.

  10. jenniferon 30 May 2007 at 5:44 am

Me again Brillig. Thank you for putting me on your FRONT PAGE!
I just did your meme thing, too.
Do you know the name of the guy from Mulan? The one with the ponytail and beefy shoulders who fell in love with the independent fiesty woman?

  11. jessabeanon 30 May 2007 at 6:20 am

You wanna fight me for Prince Eric? Because he is SO my secret boyfriend! I always thought Prince Philip was hot too. And Dimitri from “Anastasia.”

Actually, I think I crushed on a lot of animated guys. I need help…

  12. Swistleon 30 May 2007 at 6:38 am

That is so funny. I KNOW I’ve had a crush on an animated character before, I just can’t think of who it was.

  13. Janet a.k.a. "Wonder Mom"on 30 May 2007 at 6:44 am

    I don’t know who he is…

    I’ll have to research him…

And I’ll have to think about my animated crushes too…I’m sure I have one.

  14. super deson 30 May 2007 at 6:46 am

I have not seen Derek, so I can not opine. But there’s that whole “hidden” genre of animated porno. So clearly other people have “things” for animated characters as well. As long as you don’t go that way…

  15. Butrfly4404on 30 May 2007 at 6:54 am

I’ve always had a thing for Aladdin. Homeless thieves with a cute smirk have kind of defined my “type.” Or is it the “diamond in the rough” part? Probably just his animated abs.

I always thought Eric was WAY too old for Ariel. But cute for an older guy, I guess. ;)

I think the most recent Barbie we own is Pegasus, I’ll have to look for 12DP.

  16. Mustafa Şenalpon 30 May 2007 at 8:06 am

    ÇOK GÜZEL BİR SİTE.

  17. Jenniferon 30 May 2007 at 8:09 am

Ok, not a cartoon, but I am in love with Steve from Blue’s Clues. There, I said it. I heart Steve.

  18. shazon 30 May 2007 at 8:27 am

I’m with nello… can’t say I’ve been that fond of any animations, but I find it intriguing that this is perhaps common. can we see this derek?

  19. Jennyon 30 May 2007 at 8:42 am

Prince Philip from Sleeping Beauty. I totally had a crush on that one forEVER!

  20. lady macleodon 30 May 2007 at 8:58 am

Q has passed that age. she watches french films and grey’s anatomy now.

from when she was a child.. I did think the prince in Snow White a looker and I thought Beast, of Beauty and, definitely had potential.

  21. Worker Mommyon 30 May 2007 at 9:26 am

I love it, Brillig! Does Mr. Brillig know he’s got competition of the animated variety ?

For me, nope no animated crush that I can recall but Ariel and I are going to have to throwdown. Somehow she’s captured my daugthers brain and is now causing all kinds of drama in the Worker Mommy household. But more on that later …

  22. Carlaon 30 May 2007 at 9:34 am

Gosh, so many animated men, so little time. I would have to say Eric from Little Mermaid and Beast. Jennifer, I laughed out loud at your answer. Steve does have a certain charm. :)

  23. viciousrumourson 30 May 2007 at 9:41 am

Mine was the Prince from the Smurfs. Sad, but true.

  24. Jewelson 30 May 2007 at 9:52 am

Um, DUH - I’ve totally had crushes on animated men! Note - I said “crushes”…yes, plural. Philip from Sleeping Beauty? By FAR the hottest Disney Prince ever. Quite yummy. I also have a silly admission…Robin Hood, you know the fox? Yep, super dreamy. Hahahaha! Cheers for handsome Princes!

  25. Gunfighteron 30 May 2007 at 9:59 am

    Animated crushes?

No… although I had a major crush on Ms Roberts, my 10th grade history teacher. You see, she… well, never mind.

    Ahem.

  26. moodswingingmommyon 30 May 2007 at 10:11 am

Um, I don’t think I have had any animated crushes, at least any that I can recall.

From Nello’s pic I can totally understand what you’re saying about Derek though. Any man who likes shoes is a great man in my book (Dude, that’s a lot of shoes! Prince D’s got a serious fetish.)

  27. Kateastropheon 30 May 2007 at 10:25 am

Ugh, the list is too long to write here. But the weirdest one? Julia and I decided that if Simba were a guy, he’d be hotter than all the rest. You heard me . . . Simba.

  28. super deson 30 May 2007 at 11:42 am

Oh, I love Steve from Blues Clues too. But he’s not on anymore, right?

  29. Brilligon 30 May 2007 at 11:46 am

    Dear Everyone,
You know that normally, one by one, I’d respond to every one of these comments. Instead, though, I’m going to do something different. I’m going to encourage you to go rent 12 Dancing Princesses. Hahahaha. ESPECIALLY those of you who have little girls under the age of 12! And, to facilitate this, I’m giving everyone a free redbox rental. When it asks for a code, type in the word “breakroom.” But that only gives you one free night, so use it well! Hahahaha. (And, yeah, okay. You can use that code for a different movie if you really don’t want to see 12 dancing princesses…)

Those of you who take me up on this need to return here and report to us all!!!

  30. Shaunaon 30 May 2007 at 12:03 pm

Funny! I’d have to go with Eric from Mermaid, too.

  31. maliaon 30 May 2007 at 12:10 pm

Personally, I find Derek to be a little on the nerdy side. My fins flip over Prince Nalu in the Fairytopia/Mermaidia movies.

  32. Brilligon 30 May 2007 at 12:17 pm

Malia! Finally! Someone who’s seen the movie!!! Okay, to be fair, I don’t actually like Derek’s character. I think he’s wimpy and too shy and so on. But I think that they did a lovely job of DRAWING him. :-) I’m trying to remember Prince Nalu–we have that whole series too, but I can’t picture him. Is he the same one as the prince in Rapunzel and Swan Lake? And OH MY GOSH, do I really own all those Barbie movies? Is my daughter the most spoiled thing on the PLANET???

  33. Kimberlyon 30 May 2007 at 12:52 pm

I so agree! I would go on at length but I don’t want to drool on my keyboard. =P

My hubby won’t let me show the Barbie movies to my daughter yet (she’s almost three), so I watch them by myself. ~sigh~

  34. brandyon 30 May 2007 at 1:56 pm

Defintely Eric from The Little Mermaid. I mean, the man jumped into the ocean to save her AND he had a great dog. And a fantastic head of hair. Man. I need to watch that movie again.

  35. cathouse terion 30 May 2007 at 1:57 pm

Well.. lemme think.. maybe I had a thing for the agonized prince (with the voice of Jeff Bridges) in “The Last Unicorn.”

  36. Paigeon 30 May 2007 at 3:23 pm

ok, this is probably a bit obscure, but I’ve always thought Jack from Samurai Jack was a hottie. And he can kick some serious ass too… always appealing. But then again I have a weakness for martial artists… even if they are ink. :)

  37. Emma Sometimeson 30 May 2007 at 3:40 pm

He is hot, but geez, he needs to tweeze them brows. He has caterpillar brow. I hate that.

  38. The Bakerson 30 May 2007 at 3:57 pm

DUDE. I’m sure in some parallel universe I might agree…however, because I have heard that DANG DANCING SONG 89 times, and because Cousin Rowena’s voice drives me batty, and because Genevieve looks like Kate Bosworth, and because DEREK looks like he’s WEARING MAKEUP, AND because before we actually knew what the movie was, my step-mom saw his doll at a store and asked me if there was a new PC Disney movie with gay guys who had shoe fetishes…I simply have to disagree. ( “

  39. Sugar Kaneon 30 May 2007 at 4:25 pm

Duke from GI Joe. I think it was the uniform.

  40. Ginaon 30 May 2007 at 7:04 pm

Look at you and your forty comments!!!

I was babysitting my nieces this afternoon and noticed that they had this movie! So I turned it on, forcing everyone to watch it, just so I could see derek. And I agree! So cute!!! We only watched the first 15 minutes or so, but that was long enough for me to see who on earth you were talking about!

  41. soccer mom in denialon 30 May 2007 at 7:32 pm

    I have a conflicted relationship with Barbie so I’ve avoided those movies. But there’s a good-looking guy….

    Hmmmm…..

  42. DangerDoll:on 30 May 2007 at 8:24 pm

    Delurking here…

Tarzan, from Disney’s animated version, 1999. Had to fan myself.

Also: Sulley, from Monsters, Inc. Yeah, I know, I know. He’d keep me warm, though!

  43. Kateastropheon 30 May 2007 at 8:42 pm

OK i’m coming back to say LAST UNICORN! I love that CT has seen that movie. And Dangerdoll, my entire college apartment was in love with Tarzan. Ms. Baker up there stole the giant cardboard cutout from the theatre and we had him hanging on our wall.

I love animated movies. Know who else was hot? Moses in Prince of Egypt. When his wig falls off. Mmmm. Hello.

  44. DangerDoll:on 30 May 2007 at 8:47 pm

You had the life-size Tarzan ON YOUR WALL?!?

He woulda been under my covers, STAT.

“Hey! Where’d the Tarzan go? And where’s DD??”

“Uh, she went into her room three weeks ago and has only been seen once, when she sent out for more AA batteries…”

(Oops, too perverted for these parts?)

  45. thethinkeron 30 May 2007 at 9:59 pm

I thought I was the only one who thought Meg was kind of mature-ish looking for a Disney character.

  46. Leftyon 31 May 2007 at 12:45 pm

Droopy has always done it for me. That dog is SOOOOO hot.

  47. themikestandon 01 Jun 2007 at 10:25 am

Note to self: Rent Hercules under the guise of showing it to The Toddler.

Also, I find it hard to believe anyone could be hotter than Ariel. She’s no Judy Jetson, but still…

(PS I found you via Indie Blogger’s The Arbitrarian)

  48. Cherannon 03 Jun 2007 at 11:49 pm

I think Shrek is pretty hot…um, not. I’ve never had an animated crush. Sorry :-(

  49. moosh in indy.on 05 Jun 2007 at 3:18 pm

The prince in Sleeping Beauty, Aurora got lucky. Belle was shafted.
I had a thing for Steve from Blues Clues too, until he became addicted to Heroin.
    Whoops.

  50. Cateon 05 Jun 2007 at 7:59 pm

I haven’t seen that movie…but I have to admit having a crush on Iceman from “Spiderman and his Amazing Friends”…ooops….I think I’m dating myself!

  53. Jessaon 13 Jun 2007 at 12:39 pm

I haven’t seen Derek yet, but I always had a thing for Aladdin. Maybe it was his exotic looks or his heart-wrenching rags to riches story, but really, Aladdin always held my heart in his hands.

  54. Goldyon 14 Jun 2007 at 10:47 am

I was down for the little mermaid.

  55. Omega Mumon 14 Jun 2007 at 11:03 am

PS am adding you to blog list. Should have done it ages ago.

What? No one said Bugs Bunny? Am I old? He was clever, adventurous, creative, and a smartass (as well as a healthy eater). Gotta love ‘im.
