Brought to You by Fluffy

Published by Brillig at 3:06 pm under Blogginess

On Saturday, my sweet little Fluffy went through a great big trauma.

Her earring fell out.

These are the stud earrings that her ears were pierced with a year ago and they have never ever been removed from her ear. As far as she’s concerned, they are just a permanent part of her body. Just how they fell out, none of us are sure. But it happened when her dad put his hands on the sides of her face, so she is certain that it was all Hubby’s fault.

And it wasn’t just that the earring fell out, it was that the ear starting bleeding like crazy and blood was running all over her hands and onto the floor.

And, like any 5 year old of the female persuasion would, she screamed.

Oh, how she screamed–as though it had been her arm that fell off, not an earring.

The bleeding was the result of a horrendous infection, which we hadn’t seen because it was only visible in the back of her lobe once the earring was gone. We’ve been treating the infection, which has been scary and painful for her, but it’s looking much better.

And boy, did she milk this for all it was worth. We went to Target to buy new earrings. She got three pairs: pink, blue, and white “diamond” studs. She also got a new Barbie notebook, and a promise from me that I would take a picture of her with her new earrings in and put it on my blog.

Alas, you can’t really see the earrings, but oh well. I have now fulfilled my promises.

The last of her demands was probably the funniest of all. She handed me her Barbie notebook and dictated to me what she wanted written down. It says:

“Daddy put his hands on my head and my earring fell out and it hurt really bad and I screamed really loud and then Mommy went to the store and bought me lots of new earrings and so I came home and I’m wearing my earrings now and I was really really sad when my earring fell out and Daddy made my earring fall out.”

The best part is that she hands it to Hubby every few hours and requires him to read it to her. It’s his penance, I suppose–even though we all agree that it wasn’t his fault.

Really, she’s had the whole household wrapped around her tiny little finger all weekend. I suspect that losing her earring was the best thing that ever happened to her.

StumbleUpon It!

That little angel was born with the world wrapped around her little finger. Oooooh i just want to hug her she’s so dang cute.

The same thing happened to me when I was little and had my ears pierced. It’s scary for a little kid but of course new earrings are the GREATEST reward.

I, like an idiot, allowed my mother to chop off all my hair in exchange for a new pair of earrings. She just wanted to steal my powers . . .

Good for Fluffy, for knowing how to milk it.

That trait may come in handy later on down the road when her hubby does something bad. She’ll be able to get dinner, dancing, diamonds you know good stuff like that because she’ll know how to work it!
    :)

Hey she may even cut you in on the action

She is an absolute doll by the way!

    You should be proud.

Milking something for all it’s worth is definitely a life long skill that will become useful when she gets married…

She is so cute in that picture! I remember when I got my ears pierced, I even think I remember my first ear infection. I should have milked it like Fluffy did, what was I thinking? I think all I got was a hug and a daily appointment with some campho-phenique…

Fluffy is a good woman in the making. Next lesson: Crying doesn’t work on mom!

    Cute kid!

Sunshine was so brave when she got her ears peirced…then about a month and a half later took them out and said she didn’t want to wear them anymore. I explained that if she ever wanted earrings again, she’d have to get the gun again and she didn’t care.

I think that had to do more with other things that were going on, or maybe not. But I was SOOOO pissed.

She only recently said something about how she can’t wear earrings anymore. Like, two years later. Guess she knew how mad I was.

That picture of Fluffy is just adorable.

Does she hold a grudge long? ;)

    She’s so beautiful!

And she sure knows how to get what she wants–that is just pure talent right there.

    Funny post!

Wow. Hope you’re not averse to a little competition, ’cause that is one gorgeous little girl. Not just her features, but the personality that shines out in that smile of hers. Wow!

Poor thing! Funny how things like new earrings can make it all better!

    She’s SOOOOO cute!

this girl is totally my hero. She knows how to WORK IT and is BEAUTIFUL.
As I was reading your post, I started cracking up and CJ is going “WHAT mom” from the other room (he thinks that somehow, even though he didn’t say anything and I can’t even see him, I MUST be laughing at HIM!) Kids are SO self-centered… you’ve gotta love ‘em for it!

Poor dear, and yet…a woman who knows how to turn a bad situation into a winning strategy will be useful in politics. She may need to go straight to the top and just run the country.

What a doll, and what a brain.

First, a measure of thread soaked in peroxide and strung through the hole will pull the infection out in record time.
Second, she is a brilliant, brilliant, brilliant little girl.
Singing her praises across the sea!

    Man that’s cute.

I had a similar experience with earrings once…One fell out and I couldn’t get it back in. My parents told me to snap out of it and left me in my room crying for hours…

I know have 9 piercings in my ears.

  15. Rebeccaon 22 May 2007 at 5:02 am

wow - I don’t know whether that story makes me glad that I don’t have girls or even sadder that I don’t….!

  16. cathouse terion 22 May 2007 at 6:21 am

That was a purrrrrfectly natural reaction, both on the part of Fluffy and Mommy. And what a beauty!

That smile is enough to melt the heart of anyone!

Haha. Thanks everybody! I’ll let her know how popular she was here today!

  18. debioon 22 May 2007 at 8:10 am

If you don’t mind I won’t show my daughter this as I have refused to let her have her ears pierced - and she’s 12!

    Great blog.

We were allowed to get our ears pierced at age 10. I had mine done for a few months, then took them out for a few hours for some reason. They immediately closed up. my Mom was trying to push them back through and I promptly passed out directly into the kitchen garbage.

I got them pierced again when I was 12.

I surfed in from des’s (mostly because Alice is my favorite book of all time) I have to say I love the fact that you call your daughter Fluffy….my daughter’s nickname is Bubba. *laughs* We’re not sure how it happened, but there you have it.

She’s having a good time with this now, you’ll get to have a good time with it when she’s about sixteen. “Remember when…”

  21. Leneon 22 May 2007 at 12:05 pm

She is a cutie and has learned the art of milking it at an early age.

    Cute story!

I just realized I hadn’t commented on this even though I meant to…

One time when I was washing my face, my expensive amethyst earring that Craig gave me fell out and went down the drain. I screamed and cried and had about the same reaction as Fluffy, except there was no blood. (Or if there was, I didn’t notice because I was too bust trying to get my earring back.) Luckily it got caught in the bend of the pipe so C was able to take apart the sink and fetch it.

I shoulda taken a picture, just like Fluffy’s.

I have never forgotten the trauma of sorting out my 11-year old daughter’s ears and the mountain of really revolting cotton wool balls that supporated around the house for weeks afterwards. Well done!

  24. Casmeeon 22 May 2007 at 6:41 pm

Oh I’m so glad girlies ears are long healed. We still lose the occasional earring but wait till Fluffy discover the delights of that place I seek to avaoid above all others: Claire’s!

  25. Lottaon 22 May 2007 at 7:28 pm
