A screeching halt, part 2

Published by Brillig at 1:42 pm under Blogginess

There used to be a different post here. It was a post about my indignation at some of the horrendously inappropriate responses to today’s tragedy at Virginia Tech. I think that perhaps my indignation at those responses led me to… well… respond inappropriately. So, while I stand by what I said in my original post here, I’m removing it for now and tucking it away somewhere safe for future–and more appropriate–times. This wasn’t the moment to bring some of that stuff up.

For tonight, let us mourn with those who mourn and comfort those who stand in need of comfort.

I’m keeping the comments from those of you who already commented here, because what you had to say was absolutely appropriate. Thanks. I have the greatest e-friends.

I can’t believe this crap. I couldn’t read past the first few comments. Any of my political thoughts about guns aside, this was not an issue of whether guns are allowed on campus or not. Straight up, some twisted guy shot 31 people dead.

It’s amazing how some people can turn even this tragedy into a chance to hop on their political soapbox! They should be ashamed of themselves.

Well said. And I agree with Jessabean up there.

    What a horrible tragedy.

It is all so sad. I just keep thinking about the families getting the “we’re so sorry…” phone calls today. It made me hug my kids a little tighter today.

I lived in Southcentral LA in the early 1990’s and went to sleep every night hearing guns go off and helicopters flash spotlights in our apartment. But I guess we need to keep the miltia armed.

    I’m sickened by this tragedy.

soccer mom, I think parents are probably #1 in my thoughts now. Of course everyone is…but that would be so horrible.

I’m not even going to read them. I take my breaks. I figure when the facts are important, they are going to talk about them every chance they get. I get … um… a little too … um… worked up about stuff like this. Tragedies that I can’t fix type stuff.

I was just sick to my stomach about how disgusting this whole thing was.

Thank you for visiting my blog. I will bookmark you if you don’t mind.

    Hey Brillig,
You came by my place awhile back and left a comment. I’ve been “stalking” you since then ;)

I didn’t see your original post but I wouldn’t doubt that my feelings closely resembled yours! Things got so out of hand on the website of our local newspaper (The Tennessean) that my husband e-mailed the editor asking if the commenting could be turned off or at least moderated. Thankfully, they complied.

As a graduate of Virginia Tech, I’m extremely saddened and horrified by all of this. I don’t understand it, I can’t comprehend it. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone at VT and in Blacksburg and the surrounding community. It’s a special place, it’s a unique place. I know this tragedy has put a scar there, but they (we) will prevail.

Thank you for your thoughts and your emotions and for defending those who need comfort and respect and time to mourn. You’re a classy lady - but of course, I pretty much already knew that from reading this blog :)
